about me
My artistic practice emerges from a hybrid identity shaped by diverse cultural contexts and life experiences marked by migration, uprootedness, and loss. Through an eclectic approach to painting, grounded in a mixed visual language, I explore themes related to identity, memory, and the representation of the contemporary human condition.
Born in Chișinău, Moldova, when it was still part of the Soviet Union, I emigrated as a teenager to Oradea, Romania, where I completed both secondary and higher education. I hold a degree in Fine Arts from the Faculty of Visual Arts of Cluj-Napoca (Oradea campus). Since 2009, I have been based in Galicia, in the northwest of Spain.
Art has always played a central role in my life. My creative trajectory has been deeply influenced by the experience of displacement, linguistic and cultural transitions, and the intimate impact of personal loss. A pivotal moment in 2011, following a traumatic event, led me to fully embrace my identity as an artist. Since then — particularly from 2016 onward — I have developed a consistent and evolving body of work.
The projects I work on are often grounded in autobiographical reflection. My work addresses topics such as death and mourning (Pamantesti, Señores Importantes, As Bacantes, Fetiches), identity (Señores Importantes, URthe1), foreignness (Moedas de Cambio), and the emotional and symbolic fabric of family and community ties (Comensais, Iconas Familiares).
A central aim of my practice is to assert the ongoing relevance of painting as an inexhaustible and irreplaceable language. My aesthetic moves between slow, layered glazes and vibrant, digital-like gradients or pure color stains, drawing from both traditional techniques and the visual codes of advertising and virtual aesthetics. Visual repetition — especially through portraiture — is a defining feature of my work, reflecting an ongoing inquiry into the serial nature of contemporary experience.
While painting remains my primary medium, I occasionally incorporate performative or participatory elements that invite viewers to engage with the work in a more active and embodied way.
